The commission also enforces the North Carolina State Fair Housing Act and is fully substantially equivalent with the Division of Fair Housing within the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The commission participated in writing and implementing the Fair Housing goals for the Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy (CHAS) and the Consolidated Housing Plan required by the federal government.
