About the Speakers

Dr. Michael E. Walden

Michael L. Walden is a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor and Extension Economist at North Carolina State University and a member of the Graduate Economics faculty with The Poole College of Management. Dr. Walden retired at the end of March 2021 and is now a Professor Emeritus.

His Ph.D. degree is from Cornell University and he has been at NC State since 1978. He has also been a Visiting Professor at Duke University. He has served on several local and state level commissions. He currently teaches ARE 201 Introduction to Agricultural and Resource Economics.

Dr. Walden has teaching, research, and extension responsibilities at NC State University in the areas of consumer economics, economic outlook, and public policy. He has published eleven books and over 300 articles and reports, including the books North Carolina in the Connected Age in 2010 and North Carolina Beyond the Connected Age: The Tar Heel State in 2050 in 2017, both published by the UNC Press.

John B. Linderman

John brings 33 years of commercial real estate experience to Avison Young. After spending his first nine years in the industry with a local developer, he formed Vector Properties in the Triangle market in 1994. Following two successful mergers, the company became known as Grubb & Ellis|Thomas Linderman Graham, where Linderman most recently served as President and COO. Over the years, the company established itself as one of the largest and most successful full-service commercial real estate firms in the Triangle market.

Prior to beginning his career in commercial real estate, Linderman served as an industrial development representative for the North Carolina Department of Commerce and as Executive Director of the Cary (NC) Chamber of Commerce. During both his economic development career and his commercial real estate career, he has been responsible for the recruitment of many new industries and businesses to the state of NC. Before embarking on these careers, Linderman served in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 to 1981. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Gardner-Webb University. Linderman was recognized six times as a national top performer with the Grubb & Ellis Circle of Excellence Award, and he has been recognized by his peers with the top local award in commercial real estate – the Pillar Award. He has served as President of the Cary Rotary Club and as President of the Triangle Area YMCA Board of Directors.

Ashley Rogers

Ashley Rogers is the Senior Market Analyst at CoStar Group, covering the Raleigh and Durham areas. Since joining the team in June 2021, Ashley brings more than seven years of experience as a researcher within the commercial real estate and economic development sectors.

 

As part of the Market Analytics team, Ashley produces meaningful insights and analysis on trends impacting real estate market conditions, focusing on weaving industry and economic trends into a meaningful narrative that portrays the latest happenings in the Triangle.

 

Before joining CoStar in June 2021, Ashley was the Senior Research Analyst at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), leading local research efforts for Raleigh, Durham, and Charleston.

 

Ashley earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Furman University, along with a concentration in urban studies.
