About the Speakers

Dr. Michael E. Walden

Michael Walden, Ph.D., is a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor Emeritus at North Carolina State University and President of Walden Economic Consulting, LLC. 

During his 43 years on the faculty at NC State, Walden became recognized as an expert on the state economy and public policy.  He is the author of thirteen books and over 330 articles and reports, and he has made 3200 personal appearances.  Walden is also a frequent contributor to the national and state media and has appeared on all the major national news outlets. He continues to write a biweekly newspaper column distributed throughout North Carolina. He has won numerous awards, including two Champion-Tuck Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting, the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Public Service, the Holladay Medal for Excellence from North Carolina State University, and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.  His latest book is Re-Launch: How the Family Can Be Renewed and the American Dream Revived in the New Independent Lifestyle of the Post-Pandemic Economy.

Walden is a member of the North Carolina Economic Development Association, and he resides in Raleigh with his wife, Mary.

Kyle Gonzalez

Kyle is Vice President, Capital Markets for the firm's Carolinas Multifamily Advisory Group. Kyle joined Avison Young in 2019 as an associate broker with a focus on business development and investment sales. Based in Raleigh, he specializes in the marketing, disposition, acquisition and financing of multi-family assets throughout the Carolinas and Southeast.

Kyle is an accomplished sales professional in both product and price differentiation sales, profitability analysis, pro-forma property valuation, financial underwriting, and business decision modeling. He is a collaborative and critical thinker, always putting his clients’ interests first with a commitment to excellence. Having lived in North Carolina his entire life, Kyle is equipped with in-depth market knowledge and is able to align client needs with market opportunities.

Prior to joining Avison Young, Kyle was an investment real estate broker with The Marquardt Group where he advised clients on the acquisition of commercial real estate. While there, he facilitated retail leasing as well as multi-family and industrial sales transactions.

Marcus Ginyard

Marcus joined Medalist Capital in December of 2021. Prior to joining the Medalist team, Marcus played professional basketball in eight different countries throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Marcus is a student-athlete graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was the captain of the Men’s Basketball team, ACC Champion in 2007 & 2008, as well as a National Champion in 2009. Marcus also served as the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Council during his time at UNC. 

Carolina Athletics remain an important part of Marcus’ life. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors for The Rams Club and the Board of Visitors for the UNC Institute for the Environment. Marcus also serves on the Steering Committee for ULI Triangle’s Young Leaders Group.

Nick Leverett

Nick Leverett is CoStar’s Director of Market Analytics for Raleigh-Durham. Nick analyzes commercial real estate data and trends to provide CoStar’s view of the market and outlook for the office, multi-family, industrial, and retail sectors. Nick is a frequent speaker at key industry events, and his research and analysis have been featured in numerous media outlets including the Triangle Business Journal, the Charlotte Business Journal, and CoStar News. CoStar is the leading provider of commercial real estate information, analytics, and online marketplaces.

Prior to joining CoStar, Nick led the market research team at the real estate investment firm Dilweg, advising on company acquisitions and strategy in sunbelt markets such as Raleigh-Durham, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Nashville, and Tampa. Nick’s research informed decisions on hundreds of millions of dollars of commercial real estate acquisitions. Nick began his career as a practicing attorney, representing clients in complex matters involving real estate, corporate law, and dispute resolution. He is based in Raleigh.
