Rental housing providers across the country are increasingly facing legal gray areas and new trends in legislation that have granted immigration enforcement officers broader powers to hold rental housing providers accountable, requiring the disclosure of tenant information, and opening potential liability under “harboring” laws. These scenarios can create operational confusion and legal risk, especially when privacy obligations, lease terms, and federal or state laws conflict.
What you'll learn:
- How to unpack the legal, operational, and reputation risks for housing providers when immigration authorities demand access to resident data.
- Reviewing legislative trends
- How to interpret the existing legal environment in North Carolina
- Best practices to protect your business
