The Triangle Apartment Association has partnered with the Resident Relief Foundation (RRF) to provide emergency rental assistance for qualified renters who need help paying their rent. RRF is a 501(c)(3) California-based non-profit specializing in providing emergency rental assistance. Earlier this year they launched a $10 million fundraising drive to focus on assisting renters around the country facing financial hardship due to COVID-19.
THE RESIDENT RELIEF FOUNDATION is driven by a single goal: to help responsible residents stay in their apartments during an unexpected financial emergency.
Whether it’s a temporary work/job interruption, a car accident, a medical emergency, or something similar, sometimes a person just needs a little help to get through a short dip in financial stability to keep going on their own.

Please share this program with your residents by sharing the direct RRF application link or this flyer. The relief funds will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, so please encourage your residents to reach out as soon as possible.Are the funds for TAA member’s residents only?
The grants are not earmarked for TAA members and their residents but are earmarked for any resident in North Carolina who qualifies. The funds will be used to help renters pay their rent to North Carolina housing providers, which supports the North Carolina rental housing community as a whole. Housing providers are not notified of the application until the rental history verification is requested. Residents apply directly to Resident Relief Foundation via their website.
What is the grant amount for qualifying residents?
The average national grant is $2,100. However, grants vary based on each applicant's needs.
What are the qualifications for residents to receive aid from RRF?
Qualifications are outlined on RRF's website, here. We recommend reviewing the qualifications on their website to make sure you are receiving the most up-to-date information.
What should a housing provider prepare in order to verify rent?
Housing providers will be asked to submit a copy of the resident's ledger showing their payment history. Verbal, written, or email confirmation are not accepted, only ledger documentation. During the application process, the resident must agree to this statement: "I grant my permission to my landlord/property manager to provide the Resident Relief Foundation any information they need to process this grant application including my move-in date, lease violations, and ledger showing all amounts owing on my account." If the resident doesn't agree, their application will not move forward.
Are there any additional steps the resident will be required to complete before they receive aid?
Prior to the grant being approved, qualified applicants are required to complete a short, but comprehensive online course on financial education before the funds are distributed. The RRF realizes that the coronavirus crisis is a special circumstance, but residents are still required to complete the course.
How are grants paid for qualifying residents?
The RRF grants are paid directly to the owner, housing provider, or management company per the lease. The money is never paid directly to the resident.
How many North Carolina residents could this benefit?
The number of residents who benefit from this fund is dependent upon how many donations are raised and the size of the grants approved. In addition to helping residents, this relief fund demonstrates to TAA members and residents that housing providers care and are doing as much as possible to help impacted residents during this time.
