2020 Endorsed Candidates Results

Posted By: Dustin Engelken Government Affairs, TAA News & Updates,

As much of the country continues to await election results, the dust has mostly settled in North Carolina and not a whole lot has changed.

At the state level, Governor Roy Cooper won re-election and the Lieutenant Governor will once again be a Republican after Mark Robinson successfully won the open seat. It appears the Republicans will continue to hold a majority of seats on the Council of State with every incumbent of both parties winning re-election. The Democrats also appear poised to hold onto the State Supreme Court, albeit with a smaller majority.

At the General Assembly, the Republicans kept control of both the House and Senate and will hold sizable majorities again. TAA-PAC endorsed incumbents Senator Burgin, Senator Nickel, and Representative Zack Hawkins who all successfully won re-election. PAC also endorsed Sarah Crawford and Abe Jones in open races and both were successful, as well.

In Wake County, the Democrats again won every seat on the Board of Commissioners. TAA-PAC endorsed incumbents Vickie Adamson and Sig Hutchinson, both of whom won re-election, as well as newcomers Maria Cervania and Shinica Thomas who both won in open races.

In Raleigh, TAA was one of the most vocal proponents of the $80 million Affordable Housing Bond, which voters overwhelmingly approved. The bond is the largest in city history and one of the largest in state history and will result in historic investments in affordable housing.

Overall, it was a successful election cycle and after having won in every race where an endorsement was offered, TAA is in a good position to continue advocating on behalf of the industry moving forward. Thank you to everyone who supported TAA-PAC this year!
