What did winning a TOPS Award mean to you personally?
Honestly, hearing my name called was surreal. Winning the DEI Champion Award meant a lot because it recognized something I genuinely care about. I've always believed that everyone deserves to feel respected, heard, and included. To know that other people saw that in me and felt I was making a difference was incredibly meaningful.
How has receiving a TOPS Award impacted your career or professional growth?
It has reminded me that how you lead matters just as much as the results you achieve. Since receiving the award, I’ve become even more intentional about creating an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves and confident that their voices matter. It also reinforced my belief that leading in a way that stays true to my values is the right path forward.
What would you say to someone who is considering nominating a coworker – or submitting a nomination for their team/community?
Don't overthink it! Nominate them. We spend so much time recognizing numbers and performance that we sometimes forget to recognize the people behind those successes. You never know how much it could mean to someone to know their hard work and the way they treat others has been noticed.
What makes the multifamily industry special to you?
For me, it's the people. Every day is different, and every interaction is an opportunity to make someone's day a little better. Whether it's helping someone find a place they'll call home, supporting a resident through a difficult situation, or helping a team member grow in their career, the relationships are what make this industry so rewarding.
Tell us about the moment your name was announced. What was going through your mind?
I was shocked. Then I felt incredibly grateful. I immediately thought about all the moments spent making sure others felt included, heard, and supported. My grandparents always asked, “Who are you when no one’s watching?” That question has stayed with me throughout my childhood and into adulthood, so having those efforts recognized made the award especially meaningful.
Who helped you get to where you are today?
I've been fortunate to have so many people pour into me throughout my career. Managers who challenged me, coworkers who supported me, and mentors who opened doors and encouraged my growth have all played a role in shaping the leader I am today. Most importantly, my mom has been my biggest supporter every step of the way, and I wouldn't be where I am without her.
